Stay Busy

Planning is good. Action is better.

“We have a ‘strategic plan,’ it’s called doing things.”
Herb Kelleher.

Action begets action. I learned this principle from the "boss" in one of my first sales jobs, some 30 years ago. It still holds true today.

What does it mean? Very simply, people (i.e. customers) are attracted to activity. Nobody likes to do business with a "sleepy head." If you're sitting around your office moaning about business being slow, get up and create some activity. *Rearrange the goods on your shelves. *Make some phone calls. *Wash the cars that are for sale on your lot - and move them around. *Attend a networking event. *Take a prospect to lunch. *Create a contest. *Visit one of your relationships. *Knock on some doors. *Do some volunteer work on a community committee, at your Chamber of Commerce or in your industry association. *Find ways to get some "face time" - deliver a speech, lead a conference or participate in a trade show. *Stay busy. *Be proactive - just don't wait for the phone to ring or for that next "big" customer to walk through your door.

Now get out there and do it.

Happy selling!

Pat Hassett
